there in newtown on friday morning. i'll read it to our viewers from the nra. the nra is made up of four million moms and dads, be sons and daughters, and we were shocked, saddened, and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in newtown. out of respect for the families and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for a mourning, prayer and full investigation of thes before commenting. the nra is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure that this never happens. that's the first public statement since the killings here in newtown friday morning. the nra also says it will hold a major news conference this coming friday, december 21st, in washington, d.c. of course, we'll cover that as well. >>> there has been another deadly shooting in colorado. police say four people are dead in a murder-suicide. lisa sylvester is monitoring that. what do you have, lisa? >> wolf, it's a disturbing story of a woman's 911 strategy. it happened in colorado. authorities say as the call for help came in, a dispatcher heard gunshots, a man saying he was going to kill hi
for these years. people have been afraid of the leadership of the nra who really have to be characterized as enablers of mass murder and will continue to be so if they oppose reasonable restrictions on gun violence. you know, on friday, the same day as the tragedy that occurred in newtown, a maniac attacked an elementary school in china with a knife. he wounded 22 children but they all lived. they will all come home. the difference here is that the maniac had a gun and 26 people are dead. in china, he had a knife. 22 children were wounded but they're all going to be okay. it is our fault if we continue to let this insanity reign in this country. we know what to do about it. we have death by gun rates 15, 20 times more than any industrialized country. we know why. we have to stop this. >> ezra, there's a new "chicago trib" editorial out today by dick durbin talking about what will it take. what holds us back are political organizations that are well funded and continue to resist reasonable limitations. there is a parallel between the gridlock in washington and the erie silence in congress

restrictions yet. the nra, which traditionally has the power to hurt democrats in red straigates who support gun control, has been notably silent. after shooting spree in the movie theater in colorado, several lawmakers from red states told me they definitely feel the nra's clout still here on capitol hill, and just being, wolf, in senator feinstein's front office for five minutes, i could see the phones ringing off the hook about her call to revive or reinstate the assault weapons ban. at least make that the first piece of legislation in the new congress but it is very interesting it's not just the nra keeping mum right now, republican senators, most of them who we've talked to, are declining interview requests. they just don't want to talk about it quite yet. >> we'll see what happens down the road. dana, thank you. >>> this unimaginable tragedy. adults are desperately struggling to comprehend, so how do you possibly begin to talk about this with your children? our own dr. sanjay gupta, he's getting some new information for us. he'll be joining us shortly. fr. ♪ ...could end with adding
